
MICHAEL McCABE
Michael is the Executive Producer of the long-running hit musical Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre) winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for 'Most Popular Show' and the Whatsonstage.com Award for 'Best West End Show'. He is also a consultant for Wicked - Die Hexen von Oz in Germany.
Together with Joseph Smith, he is a producer of the new 50th Anniversary Broadway production of Frank Loesser's How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying starring Daniel Radcliffe, which opens in March 2011, and an Associate Producer of the current Tony® award-winning revival of Promises, Promises (Broadway Theatre) starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth. Michael and Joseph will be producing Broadway's Tony® award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet in the West End next year. In 2009, they were UK producers of Spring Awakening (Lyric Hammersmith / Novello Theatre) winner of the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for 'Best Musical' and four 2010 Laurence Olivier Awards including 'Best Musical'.
Michael was the original Marketing Director (and subsequently also Associate Producer, Worldwide) of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' Mamma Mia!, from 1998-2004, working on 14 premieres of the musical around the world (including London, Toronto, San Francisco, Melbourne, Sydney, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Hamburg, Utrecht and at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway).
He started his career in theatre ticket sales in 1984 before joining the advertising agency Dewynters the following year. Michael went on to found Michael McCabe Associates in 1989, the West End's first company dedicated solely to the marketing of commercial theatre productions. He continued as Managing Director for over a decade, overseeing the expansion of the company into a full-service advertising agency. During this time he also spent two years working on behalf of the agency in New York.
Michael lectures annually for the Stage One 'Workshop for New Producers' and was on the 2010 Theatre Panel for the 'Creatives in Residence' philanthropic programme at The Hospital Club.
In 2008, Michael was voted one of London's 'Cultural 100' by The Hospital Club and The Independent; in 2009 he was featured in The Stage '100' and in 2010 he was named by Debretts as one of their 'People of Today'.
As well as Michael McCabe Productions, Michael is also a director of McCabe/Smith and the marketing company Joe Public.
